There's Hope For TodaySample

I think I’m losing my memory!
I leave things at home when I head for the office, especially when I have set them out ahead of time. I reach into my gym bag to find that I have clean socks but no towel. I am seated in a restaurant enjoying my first bite when I catch a vision of my money clip on the nightstand at home. Not long ago I reached a new plateau in my ascent to cognitive nirvana. I arrived home late in the evening and was greeted by my wife with an odd question: “Where’s Ashley?” She was referring to our eldest daughter. I was supposed to pick her up after my meeting. I was suddenly aware that I had crossed a new threshold in forgetfulness. But then, I’m not sure if it’s worse to forget, or to be unable to forget.
A world without forgetting would be a horrible place. What if time didn’t soften the blow or blur the edges? What if our perspective couldn’t be altered, or our attitude elevated? What if there were no new vantage points to steal away our affections and attentions? Life would be a numbing monotony, a constant rehearsing of yesterday’s pain and trouble.
Enjoy the warm pleasure of precious memories while rejoicing in the grace of things forgotten.
