There's Hope For Today

DAY 287 OF 366

SOUTH AFRICA: The AIDS virus is widespread in South Africa.

Amidst the bright hopes of a prosperous and pampered nation, we forget so many live in a culture of death. What hope can the philosopher offer to the millions living on a razor’s edge? Medical breakthroughs come at a snails pace. When a magic potion is discovered, Africa will receive it last; economics rule the world. What hope can we offer, living on the other side of CNN, well insulated from the epidemic? What message can comfort a nine-year-old girl, moving through the early stages of decline? She has watched the disease ravage her family and friends. She knows what awaits her. Shall we preach acceptance and help her resign herself to the hard ways of the world? Will she die without hope? This culture of death cries out to us for the only message adequate to meet the needs of the crisis: the message of eternal life in Christ. Even now, the Book of Hope is being distributed in South Africa.

Pause a moment and pray for the children and the workers. Help us change the world, one child at a time – before it’s too late.
