Book of Ruth

DAY 3 OF 3

IT’S NOT IN VAIN

Obed begot Jesse, and Jesse begot David. (Ruth 4:22)

Where is God in Naomi's life? Let's look at Ruth. She did not need Naomi to continue with her life, but Ruth acted with kindness towards her mother-in-law by holding on to her in faithfulness. Ruth represents the mind and heart of Christ.

After arriving in Bethlehem, God provided a distant relative from Naomi to marry Ruth and welcomed Naomi back into her family. Finally, Ruth gave birth to a son who was named Obed. “And may he be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age; for your daughter-in-law, who loves you, who is better to you than seven sons, has borne him.” (Ruth 4:15)

According to the custom at that time, Obed would be responsible to provide for his grandmother, Naomi, and keeping her family’s name alive. There was more. Obed became the father of Jesse, who became the father of King David of Israel – whose family line was later used by the Lord to deliver God’s Son, Jesus, the One who brings hope and salvation to the whole world. When love moves our hearts to do good things, God can do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20)

Everything will not be in vain when we do things that are right and aligned with the Word of God.
