Pearls of Prayer for Parents

DAY 6 OF 7

Pearls of Promises

One of my favorite promises of God’s word is found in Philippians 1:6:

“For I am confident of this very thing, that He who began a good work in you will perfect it until the day of Christ Jesus.”

We all want to find our place in this world, and to know that someday we will be complete is an amazing thought.

Finding contentment is hard to do in the middle of the mundane or ordinary.  We don’t expect to see promises happen every day, do we?  We must remind ourselves that God is with us, and He won’t leave us or forsake us.  Jesus warned us life wouldn’t be easy, which is a hard concept for children to grasp.  They have a deep need for safety and security.

Several years ago, my daughter and her family suffered a house fire that left them displaced.  They lived in a hotel for two weeks,  then they moved into a rental.  Their entire family felt out of sorts for close to a year.  One day, while quietly playing, my four-year-old grandson asked his mom a big question, “Does Jesus love us less because of the fire?”

I overheard their conversation and held my breath for my daughter’s reply.  “No, Jesus doesn’t love us less, He loves us the same.”  She replied.  “Look at the way the Lord promised He would always be with us every day and how we were safe to escape the fire.”  She went on to explain the promises of Jesus' presence that gets us through the fires of life.

Seize the daily teachable moments, for they’re the framework to guide and strengthen our children.  God promises to do His holy work until completion.  The work God does through us happens when living out our faith.  God promises us “there’s another in the fire and another in the water holding back the seas.” (Hillsong, Another In The Fire).  What reassurance!

Prayer:  God, we ask you to remind us of the promises of your love, mercy, and grace.  We need Your grace daily.  We are faced with many challenges and many burdens.  Help us to be optimistic about all things and bring to our minds unwavering expectations for your promises at work.  We may not always see you working, but we believe you are.  Amen.
