DAY 74 OF 92

Who Do We Trust?

Proverbs 3:5

Proverbs is a book of Spirit infused sayings from a father to a son. There’s a theme that jumps out to the reader almost immediately as one dives into its pages. This theme is nothing less than our need for wisdom. Here is a short verse on how to receive it: “trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding,” (Proverbs 3:5).

This verse is a running theme throughout the book. Choice: trust God with all our heart, or to trust ourselves? Proverbs 3:5 stands before us like a sign at a fork in the road, at every point of decision, directing us to choose between these two paths.

Unfortunately, our sinfulness propels us to trust in ourselves and go it alone, do what we think, and get what we want. Yet every time it eventually ends in hard heartedness, pain, regret, and disappointment. So, what hope do we have of ever finding another way, this mysterious, secret path of wisdom in trusting God?

“If you turn at my reproof, behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make my words known to you.” (Proverbs 1:23) Repentance, “If you turn”.

Dear reader, I urge you to not overlook this gift that lays before you! In these coming weeks, as you open to the book of Proverbs, so open your whole heart to The Father. Let the truth of His word search you, expose self-trust within you and lead you to the One who is infinitely trustworthy.

Father, send out your spirit of wisdom to find your lost ones and lead them safely home!

Family Connection: God wants us to trust in Him. As a family memorize Proverbs 3:5, 6 this week and have fun reciting it. Make up motions to go along with it. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; Lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight.”
