Psalm 139
Psalm 139 shows that God is all knowing and always present with us. King David, the writer of Psalm 139, expresses his desire to follow God’s will for his life, but acknowledges that God’s ways and thoughts toward him are far greater than he can comprehend.
God is always with us and there is no place we can go to hide from Him. He created us, has known us from before our birth, and has ordained all our days. With this knowledge, King David asked God to reveal to him any area of his life that offended him and didn’t conform to His will.
As followers of Christ, we all strive to live our life in accordance with the will of God, but continually fall short. Though we may justify parts of our life that aren’t fully submitted to Him, our Savior shines His light on those dark places for our needed repentance. We can trust that He knows what’s best for us and is willing to show us hard things in order to heal us.
Let’s take our cue from Psalm 139 and ask God to take inventory of our lives through His Holy Spirit, to guide us with His Word. It is indeed a fearful thing to be truly known. But thanks be to God, for while we were yet sinners He sent His Son to die for us.
Dear Lord, your knowledge and ways are so much higher than mine. I want to follow your plan for my life more than my own earthly desires. “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!” (Psalm 139:23-24)
Family Connection: God created each one of us uniquely as us. He gives each of us giftedness and talents in special ways. Take a moment this week to have an “I See In You” conversation with your children-tell them what you see in them that is unique and a gift from God.
