Exposing Seven Lies of Lust

DAY 2 OF 7

  Day Two: Lie #2 – It’s a Secret

One of my favorite sermons was given by a pastor friend of mine. He titled it, “There’s No Such Thing as a Secret.” Unfortunately, this friend was living a double life. The same week he gave that sermon, he got caught acting out sexually with others and ended up losing his church.

Lust will really try to assure you that no one will ever know. Lust is conniving and tells you that it is impossible for anyone to find out. Lust even says you have covered your tracks. I’ve counseled with men for more than thirty years, and there is one thing I know for sure: There is no such thing as a secret.

Here are a few facts.

1. God is omnipresent and He sees you every time you lust.

2. He can see your heart and thoughts.

3. His Holy Spirit is in you, so there is no place to keep a secret.

4. The angels can see what you are doing. Hebrew 12:1 says: “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

5.  Your computer keeps a history of where you have been. Your data is stored on websites by the websites. Do you remember the Ashley Madison leak? Many men were exposed of their double life.

Remember, Jesus said that our secrets will be shouted from the rooftops (Luke 12:3). If you still believe in secrets, you will get caught and humiliated. Many men who had faith in their secrets rather than faith in God ended up getting caught. Don’t believe the lie of a secret. A secret is the perfect growing material for the weed of lust. Remember, you create the seed of lust. You give it the shade of false secrecy, and you can choose to live lust-free instead.

Work it Out

1. How has your behavior in the past supported your belief that lust was a secret?

2. What are the specific lies lust has told you about it being a secret?

3. What was new for you about the thought “there are no secrets”?

4. How do you need to change your thoughts or behaviors to incorporate the truth that there is no such thing as a secret?

About this Plan

Exposing Seven Lies of Lust

Lust attacks Christians every day. These attacks come in many forms. Lust uses images, entertainment, and social media, but also lies to Christian men to keep them trapped in sin. These lies can grow into future problems...
