FCA Endurance: Becoming IronFit

DAY 5 OF 10

Train Fully Charged

Ready:

“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

Set:

Most endurance athletes use modern fitness devices to track all kinds of physical metrics to provide feedback during training and racing. These devices provide important data to keep athletes on track, and, if used properly, they can help yield improved performance over time. But these devices fail to work if they’re not frequently charged.

For athletes who have become reliant on this data, it’s a problem to have a device lose power during a workout or even more so during a race. The prepared athlete prevents this by routinely and habitually connecting his or her device to a power source, and by leaving it connected long enough to get a full charge, which ensures that the device is ready when it’s needed.

To compare with your spiritual life, we are the fitness device, Jesus is the power cord, and God is the power source. Jesus connects us to God and His power. Just like a fitness device without the charging cable, we have no power without a connection with Jesus. He is the key! When we plug into Jesus Christ and connect with Him, we can experience God’s presence and receive His power and peace.

We can recharge by intentionally creating space and time for God through prayer, reading, and meditating on God’s Word, worship, and fellowship. As a Christ-follower, we must recharge and connect to Jesus every day!

Go:

1. How can you make time to recharge daily by spending time with God?

2. How can you spend a few minutes in prayer before you start a training session or race?

Workout:

John 15:1-17

John 14:6

Overtime:

“Lord, thank You for inviting me into an active and personal relationship with You. Help me to stay connected to You throughout the day by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Jesus, thank You for making it possible for me to plug into God’s power and presence.”
