Seven Fears Athletes Face; Seven Truths God Gives

DAY 3 OF 7

Fear of the Unknown

Ready: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” – Hebrews 13:8 (NLT)

Set: We like to know what’s going to happen next. We like to be prepared, to focus on what we know and what to expect. In an ideal world, everything is mapped out for us and every outcome is revealed to us before they happen.

But this is not reality. Rarely does life announce itself beforehand. It comes in messy, unexpected, and we try as best we can to grab hold of it and piece it back together so we can see what it looks like. You want to know the outcome of where you’ll end up playing sports in college, or even professionally. You want to know if all the hours of sweat and sacrifice will be worth it, and an unseen worry consumes you.

Here’s the truth: Trust in the God of the unknown.

He who formed the end from the beginning has everything under control. Nothing is hidden from His sight, and nothing that happens in our day-to-day lives surprises Him. He is the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last. God sees how it all will unfold, and He is unchanging. We can trust the One who holds the stars to hold our fears. Whatever it is that keeps us back from a full, abundant life no longer has a hold when we fix our eyes on firm foundation.

We don’t know what’s coming. But we know Who is in charge. He has our lives sketched out, and we can rest that He knows where we will end up. It’s our job to enjoy the journey and live in the joy of our sport.

Go:

1. What unknowns are you facing right now?

2. How does knowing that God sees everything give you comfort?

3. What can you do to trust your unknown to God today?

Workout:

Isaiah 41:10

Ephesians 2:20-21

Philippians 4:19

Overtime: “Lord, there are so many unknowns in this life. So much that comes is unexpected. I want to know what’s coming, but You don’t always give answers; You give Yourself. May I rest in confidence in You, my cornerstone and firm foundation. Amen.”
