Benefits Of Being Justified Through FaithSample
God loves me despite my sin
“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
I love this verse. I have loved it for more than forty years. It is one of the mightiest verses in the Bible. It tells me so much. It tells me that God loves me and that God does not just love me but proves His love for me. God does not just prove His love for me, He proves His love while I’m still in my sin, while I’m a sinner.
Moreover, God proves His love for me primarily in the person of Christ. I best see God’s love for me in Jesus. Not in Christ’s teachings, His life, His healings, His miracles, or His example. No, I see God’s love primarily in the death of Christ, because when He died, He died for me and my sin, to redeem me and rescue me.
In the universe, the heart of God’s love is best seen on a bloody cross, where Christ lay dying for sinners. Sinners like me. This means that God’s love is undeserved. Christ died while we were sinners.
It also means that God’s love is sacrificial. It was the greatest sacrifice imaginable—God dying in the place of rebels. If you ever feel that you don’t matter to God, look at the cross.
If you ever feel that God doesn’t care about your hurts, look at the cross. If you ever feel that God’s not wild about you, look at the cross. Take a long look at the cross of Christ and know how very loved you are, loved by the God who made you.
