Guiding Children: Strong Guides for Every Child’s LifeSample

TECHNOLOGY connects
It’s tough raising kids today. 1 Corinthians 6:12 NLT nails biblical parenting when it says, “I am allowed to do anything—but not everything is good for you. And even though I am allowed to do anything, I must not become a slave to anything”...even screens!
In our recent study with Barna, 1 in 3 Christian parents (34%) reported that they are media stressed despite also reporting that their children consume (nearly 81%) less entertainment media than the national average—8 hours vs. 42 hours/week!
Young people today are digital natives, growing up only knowing a connected world with access to all sorts of digital resources. However, there seems to be a digital divide when it comes to our children’s spiritual formation experiences. 3 in 4 parents don't use any digital resources for their children’s Bible engagement (including videos, apps, games, websites), yet our children use technology for every other area of their lives.
“Culture changes. When it does, Christianity needs to both stay the same and reach people in ways that speak to them today.” -Rob Hudnut, former EP and VP Mattel Entertainment
It may be valuable to spend some time focusing more on how our kids spend their screen time than on how much time they spend. Consider what activities are active or passive, social or isolat-ed, creating or merely consuming in the digital realm There are great biblical resources for kids to experience in the digital space!
