DAY 327 OF 366

Then We Will Know

Ezekiel 28:24

One phrase keeps surfacing as we read through Ezekiel this week:

“ . . .  then they will know that I am the Lord God” (Ezekiel 28:24, ESV).

Sometimes the phrase means a promised blessing to Israel; sometimes it warns of coming judgment to nations that ignore God. As we repeatedly read the phrase, we wonder: Does God reveal himself only in blessing and judgment? What other ways does He reveal himself? Let’s look at other ways:

God reveals himself in the unwritten beauty of nature. The beauty we see in the natural world reminds us of God’s power and provision. “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the expanse proclaims the work of his hands” (Psalm 19:1, CSB).

God reveals himself in His written Word. When we want to know someone, we study their habits and character. We want to know God, so we study His Word. “Your word is like a lamp for my feet and a light for my path” (Psalm 119:105, NCV).

God reveals himself in Jesus, the Living Word. Jesus came to the earth as fully God and fully man—a hard concept to comprehend. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God” (John 1:1, CSB). And Hebrews 1:1-3, CSB, “ . . . but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.”

God wants to reveal himself to others through me. Can others see God in us, in the way we live and speak? The Psalmist said: “Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my rock and my Redeemer” (Psalm 19:14, NASB). We can be the revelation of God to someone else.
