DAY 320 OF 366

Doing Good

2 Thessalonians 3:13

That young momma was tired, the kind of tired that seeps into your bones and penetrates your soul. Her toddler and baby had both been sick, which meant a couple of visits to the doctor’s office, antibiotics, sleepless nights, and worry mounting over the bills that month. A thought emerged to that mom, “Is anything I’m doing making a difference in the world?” Stopping by the grocery store, she breathed a prayer. “Lord, strengthen me for what this day holds. Lord use me. Help me to be a good wife and mom, but also, help me faithfully obey You, no matter what.”

Unbuckling the kids from their car seats, she hurried inside for the few items on her list, needing just enough for the next two days until payday. Thankfully her toddler didn’t have a meltdown this time when she asked him to sit in the cart. Ten minutes later she pushed the cart toward their car, grateful that she still had $20 left! She couldn’t explain it, but she knew God had given her a bit of reserve for the week.

Then she saw her. A woman was trying to get each of her four little ones—all a bit dirty and disheveled—situated in and around the cart to go inside. Her face wore a familiar weary expression.

Watching her, the young mom heard God’s soft whisper. Pushing past her initial hesitation, she wrapped her last $20 bill in the receipt to hide it a bit and slipped it in the other momma’s hand, saying, “God bless you!” She didn’t look back until they were at their car and saw the woman clutch the gift to her heart, a smile warming her face. God would certainly cover any lack that giving this gift might bring!

“As for you . . . sisters, do not grow weary in doing good” (2 Thessalonians 3:13, ESV).

What might the Lord whisper to your heart this week?
