When Life’s Not Fair

Job 27:1-4

Facing difficult times not only depletes us spiritually, but also brings strong pressure on us to fall away from our commitment to follow God wholeheartedly and act nobly. The enemy loves to capitalize on hurt and whispers lies like, “God is not fair; it’s not worth the effort, He is not true.” We have choices to make in those moments and what we decide can determine our future. 

Consider Job. Job faced difficult times as he suffered tremendous trials. The trials didn’t come because God is bad. His trials were meant to purify Job’s faith and put the enemy in his place. The accuser assured God that Job was righteous only because of His blessings. God knew Job’s heart was one of integrity. When He allowed Job to be tested, Job’s response was as God expected. Job chose to be good even when God didn’t seem to be.

What a tremendous example for us! Deciding to do right “no matter what” is not easy. But the One who created us makes it possible. He will turn the hurt life brings us to our benefit. He will shame our enemy and give us our reward for enduring. 

We can be like Job! Be righteous even when life isn’t fair. Start by praising God and reading the Psalms and Scriptures about God’s goodness out loud. Declare that you can stand firm in your commitment to do His will. God will arise and the enemy will be scattered.
