Have you ever earned money for something? When you got paid for mowing the neighbor’s lawn or babysitting your little sister, that was a wage. It’s something you earned. This verse uses that same word to talk about what we get as a result of sin. And what are the wages we earn from our sins? Death. Not literal, drop-dead-right-now death, but spiritual death. A disconnection from God, who is our source of life. But because of Jesus, we don’t have to suffer that loss. Instead, we can live freely knowing that because of what Jesus did for us, we now earn a full life lived with God! And that’s pretty cool!
