Mantra - Five metaphors for how to live a Gospel life

DAY 1 OF 7

Day 1 - Mantra - Metaphors in Motion

As I stood up, everyone’s eyes were on me. My heart was pounding. I wondered, “Will anyone even believe me?”

This was a vulnerable place to be. But I knew after my encounter with Him, I had to tell everyone.

Before I spoke, I said to myself under my breath, “He knows me.”

Whatever I said after elicited a response of belief from many in the town. I knew that Jesus really was who He said He was.

Imagine how the woman at the well felt. Her interaction with Jesus gave her a mantra of identity and mission.

A mantra is a short statement used to uplift, motivate, or direct someone back on track. It reminds the person of the value in what they’re doing.

Do you feel like you need a mantra?

Thankfully, there are powerful Biblical metaphors that guide us into a deeper understanding of who we are, who Jesus is, and how we can relate to Him.

Jesus often spoke by painting pictures for His audience. These can bring clarity to our identity and mission as His people. These metaphors can be amazing mantras.

There are mantras from Jesus that we can use when we most need Him. It is only in Him that we can find true identity!

Like it says in Hebrews 12, we look to Him because when we know whose we are, we will know what to do.

Prayer

Father, would You write these mantras on my heart? Soften me to Your truth so that I hear from Your Spirit as I read Your Word.

The Bible is full of powerful metaphors and word pictures to help us not only understand who Jesus is, but who we are and how we can relate to Him. Because when we know who we are, we will know what to do. During this seven day reading plan we will look at five Mantras of Jesus that will encourage, motivate, and direct the church in the years to come.
