[Psalms] Why We Need to SingSample

[Psalms] Why We Need to Sing

DAY 7 OF 7

Sing a Song of Wisdom

“All music should have no other end and aim than the glory of God and the souls’ refreshment. Where this is not remembered, there’s no real music but only devilish hubbub.” Johann Sebastian Bach.

At the top of all his compositions, Bach would write: “J.J.,” Jesus Juva, which meant “Jesus help me.” Then at the end, he would write: “S.D.G.,” Soli Deo Gloria,” which meant “To God Alone be the Glory.” He was composing instrumental music and saying, “I want to praise God.”

Worship is about what your heart is saying. Be a great worshiper before Him and sing a song of wisdom. Connect your head and your heart. Understand what you are singing and feel what you understand.

There is a lot of music out there, and you could be singing songs of praise that have a great melody but they are incorrect theologically. I want to encourage you to not sing those songs, because what you sing is what you end up believing. For example, if you think the Holy Spirit comes and goes, you are going to miss that He indwells you and lives inside of you. In your deepest, darkest pain, and in your greatest joy He is with you.

“Sing an instructive song. Sing praise with understanding. Let sense and sound go together.” Adam Clarke (1760-1832).

Jesus said it like this: “Worship in spirit and in truth.”

We need to sing with wisdom as we walk with God. As we get to know Him better, we sing to Him wisely with an understanding of who He is and what He is doing.

Psalm 47 says that the leaders of the earth belong to God. Songs of praise remind us of whose we are. Not who we are. If our world’s leaders realized that they belong to God and worship Him as such, we could end world hunger, poverty, trafficking, and more. Great leaders entrust themselves to the greatest leader. And great leaders, great mommas, great daddies, great husbands, great single adults, great employees and employers, praise God—not themselves. They sing to the Lord.

Lord, it is You that I’m entrusting myself to. I’m going to sing praise to You. I want to walk with You and trust You always, for yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory. Amen

It does not matter if you are a good singer. Praising is what matters. Not the vocal cords, but the cords of your heart. If you are a bad worshiper, that is a problem. If you do not give God praise, it will affect your w...
