How To Stop Worrying

DAY 5 OF 5

Time to Stop Worrying

You’ve been through a few different phases of what it means to give your cares to God over the past few days. You’ve learned that courage beats nerves! You’ve learned that fear doesn’t have to last forever! You’ve learned that it’s better to focus on God’s might instead of bad things that might happen! And you’ve learned that Jesus is with you, even when storms are raging inside of you.

You know what that means? It’s time. Time to give your worries and cares to God.

Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken. Psalm 55:22 NIV

Look at those words again. Think about the ways you can give your cares to God.

  • Write fears down and rip them up to show that they’re not a part of you anymore.

  • Say to God, out loud, the fears you’re giving to Him.

  • Start focusing on what you’re thankful for.

  • Write a list of everything you can think of that you’re thankful for—and hang it where you can see it.

  • Sing and listen to music that puts your focus on how amazing and wonderful God is.

  • Place your hand on your chest, close your eyes, and breathe very slowly, focusing on how your breath fills your lungs and leaves your body, to calm yourself physically.

  • Go for a walk and focus on how huge the sky is. Thank God that He’s bigger than all the storms that ever filled the sky—and He’s the one the storms obey!

The truth is, storms may come. Fears may try to stop you. But God is always the same. He is always good. And He always loves you. No fear is strong enough to change that fact!

Ready for something fun? And maybe a little scary, too? Okay, watch this! May you always be as calm as Jayme if a tarantula ever walks across your face.

Ask yourself: What are some activities I find really calming when I’m feeling restless or worried? How can I build those things into my everyday life—especially when I’m struggling with worries and fears?

Challenge yourself: Spend some time memorizing Psalm 55:22. Have it ready so that you can say it to yourself anytime you feel like your fears are starting to shake you.

Pray: God, You are so good! It fills me with hope and joy, knowing You are with me everywhere I go and through every situation I face. Help me to remember to cast all my cares on You. Thank you for helping me to not be shaken by fear. I trust You. I want to live my life safely and thankfully resting in Your love. In Jesus’ name, amen.

How To Stop Worrying

Hey, stop worrying. Did that help? No? Of course not. It’s more complicated than that. Worry, fear, anxiety—they’re complex issues, and middle schoolers have a lot of worries, fears, and sometimes anxiety. They affect us...
