Reading the Bible in Historical Sequence Part 11

DAY 6 OF 30

At noon (still the fourteenth day of Nisan) Jesus is crucified. There is darkness until three o'clock in the afternoon (Amos 8:9–10). He dies (lambs slain at twilight Exodus 12:6). Joseph of Arimathea asks Pilate for the body. It is evening, the start of the fifteenth day of Nisan. His body is entombed (see Appendix L: The Timing of the Crucifixion).

Note 1 (John 19:33, 36): The bones of the Paschal lambs were not to be broken (Exodus 12:46, Numbers 9:12). Thus Psalm 34:20 is fulfilled by this decision not to break the leg bones.

Note 2 (Matthew 27:62): ‘The next day...’ is Friday the fifteenth day of Nisan, the first official day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread that was observed as an extra Sabbath rest day (Leviticus 23:7; John 19:31). See Appendix E: The Passover Pattern of Crucifixion Week.
