DAY 50 OF 116

EZEKIEL 24-25:
Yesterday in Ezekiel we heard the shockingly graphic story of the two adulterous sisters, which were really the cities of Samaria and Jerusalem.

ISAIAH 8:
Then in the book of Isaiah, we heard how Isaiah was sent to King Ahaz, and the message to the king contains a prophecy that probably had two fulfillments— one in Ahaz’ time and another at Jesus’ birth: “The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).” Had the New Testament not explicitly stated that Jesus’ birth was a fulfillment of this verse, the similarity would be considered just an interesting coincidence.

HEBREWS 4:
In chapter 3 of Hebrews, we read about God promising another day for the fulfillment of giving Israel a place of rest. And guess what?! That other day is called ‘today’!

Let’s pray.
Lord Jesus, we thank You for the figurative way the writer of Hebrews used the word ‘today’. And really, today is all we have to work with. Today we have the opportunity to live for You. Today we choose to believe in You and all that You tell us. Today we choose to take You up on the offer of entering your rest. May our unfaithful hearts not turn us away from You. Let us not be deceived or stubborn. Let us accept warnings from our fellow believers, and may we obey the instruction here to speak up to warn our fellow believers as long as it is Today. Lord, we want to hold our confidence in You firmly to the end, that we might be— as this passage says, your partners. (Heb. 3:14) Nudge us today, Lord, as long as it is Today, to help us realize how we can be your partners.
