DAY 16 OF 116

2CHRONICLES 10-11:
Yesterday in 2nd Chronicles we completed the story of Solomon’s achievements.

PROVERBS 29a:
Here’s our highlighted proverb for today:

Pro. 29:11 GNT Stupid people express their anger openly,
but sensible people are patient and hold it back.

MATTHEW 11b:
Yesterday in Matthew we heard Jesus’ teaching about John the Baptist. Jesus knew that there was no way his own ministry would be received, because God had already spoken to the people of Israel in all sorts of ways, so that they were like children dissatisfied with their playmates, saying, “We played happy songs on our flute, and you didn’t want to dance. Then we played sad songs, and you didn’t want to play like crying.”

Let’s pray.
Dear Lord Jesus, how amazing it is to us how your words coming from ancient times always apply to us, even in our age. “God’s wisdom is shown to be true by its results.” The world would think, “Let’s convert people by force, holding a sword to their throats.” But You don’t work that way. The world would think, “Cause a powerful king to rule to institute changes.” But your kingdom doesn’t advance that way. John the Baptist certainly didn’t think his being in jail was a good way to advance God’s kingdom. Violent and arrogant men still rise up and lead people away from You with messages that are not heavenly wisdom, but which make sense to worldly people. Even we say, “Why do You allow this to happen?” You said, “Those who do not take up their cross and follow in my steps are not fit to be my disciples.” And we say, “I wouldn’t run things like this if I were You.” Lord, help us to hear again your words to us, “How happy are those who have no doubts about me!”
