DAY 5 OF 7

A Life With a Purpose

In life, some moments mark the start of something new. You realize a “before” and an “after.” You sense a shift happening; you will never be the same.

The unexpected encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman marked a before and after moment, not only for her, but also for the entire community of Sychar. When Jesus enters your life, when the “living water” fills you, you will be unable to contain the spring of living water welling up to eternal life! When you hear the good news about the Gospel, and Jesus Christ is revealed to you, you will not be able to restrain yourself from spreading the news!

In a fleeting moment, her world shifted, taking her from spiritual and emotional despair to a revelation of truth, freedom, and joy. Immediately, the crushing weight of her spirit lifted, and for the first time in her life, she felt free. She, a despised and sinful woman, had encountered the Christ, the Messiah! She felt clean, released from sin and shame, and where there had been pain and guilt, now freedom and joy, hope and love flowed.

Leaving her water jar, she ran back to the village. An entire town heard about Jesus that day, and many, like her, chose to follow Him. God can use our story to bring salvation, encouragement and freedom to others.

All of a sudden, she went from being rejected and the talk of the town, to becoming the one who brought the most important news of the world to the whole village! This is what redemption is all about. She was rescued; now she was able to help rescue others.

When Jesus called the Samaritan woman, she may not have been wise according to human standards; she may have been neither influential nor of noble birth. She was involved in a disgraceful and sordid lifestyle. But He looked beyond those human labels and chose her. He gave her a future and a purpose. She was free!

Journal Prompt

Think about how Jesus has turned your weaknesses, pain and failures into joy and freedom. God can use your story to bring salvation, encouragement and freedom to others. Consider writing your testimony and sharing this good news with those who need to hear the Gospel.
