Walking With Jesus

DAY 38 OF 40

Renewing Your Mind

There is a constant battle going on between our flesh and our spirit. Although we are a new creation (according to 2 Corinthians 5:17) and our spirit has been made alive to God, our soul (mind, will and emotions) has not been made new.

We will continue to struggle with old habits and thought patterns after we come to know Jesus. That is why we need to renew our minds through daily Bible reading, prayer and witnessing to others. Focus on the things of God rather than on fleshly issues like wrong thoughts and emotions.

We see in 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 that one of the biggest areas of conflict is in our minds. Therefore we need to “take every thought captive”. This means that we need to subject our thought life to the truth of God’s Word.

For example, you’re walking down the road and see someone of the opposite sex, when a lustful thought enters your mind. You need to stop and realise that the thought does not come from you. It has been planted in your mind, a fiery dart of the enemy. You have to “take the thought captive” immediately by doing something else like begin to pray for an unsaved person or pray in the Holy Spirit.

Reflection questions (write your answers in a journal):

  • On a scale of 1-5 evaluate how you are doing in your stewardship in the following areas:
