Walking With Jesus

DAY 17 OF 40

Sonship

According to John 1:12 we have the right to be children of God. Along with this, we have the right to an eternal inheritance.

A slave serves in his master’s house because he must, but a son in his father’s house because he wants to. We have the freedom to serve God because He is a good and loving Father. It is important to notice that both a slave and a son must have a servant heart; the only difference between them is that a son gains an inheritance.

Reflection questions (write your answers in a journal):

  • Think of the characteristics of a parent-son relationship. Do you think they are true of your relationship with God?

Action:

What do you think are the five most important needs that children want their parents to meet?

Testimony:

Until I had children of my own, it was difficult for me to trust God and open up my heart to Him. But through my interaction with them, God has shown me many things. My youngest daughter, Naomi, always gets herself into trouble by climbing into a certain tree in our garden. It is easy for her to get up there but she can never get down. Then she begins to cry for her daddy to come and rescue her. I will come and stand under the tree, waiting for her to jump into my arms. There is always hesitation on her part and risk involved in jumping from that height. But eventually she jumps, because she knows that I have never dropped her in the past. She exercises great faith, but it is based on a specific trust in her dad. How much more can we trust God when He says: “I will never leave you nor forsake you?”
