Choices

DAY 2 OF 16

The Fast Lane

Instead of listening to God when we consider our choices, some of us choose the “fast lane” or the “easy way.” It is easier to do what you want than what God wants. King David of Israel found that out. He made some terrible choices.

Read about David’s bad decisions in 2 Samuel 11:1-27. David’s bad choices led to many painful results: an unplanned pregnancy, the death of that child, and murder. David had the opportunity to make better choices.

Think about these questions as you read.

  1. Where was David when his army was fighting? (2 Samuel 11:1)
  2. What about Bathsheba? Was she able to make a different choice? What about Uriah?
  3. Did David behave properly when he saw Bathsheba?
  4. Did he show respect to Bathsheba and her husband even after he knew she was married?

Make It Personal

  • How do you feel about what David did to Bathsheba? Do you know someone who was wrongly treated like that? What was it like for them?
  • Have you ever seen someone betrayed like Uriah was? How did that make you feel? How did you respond?
  • When you think about this story, can you see how one sin can lead to another?

Where do you find direction for life’s difficult decisions? God’s answer for us is Jesus, his Chosen King. King David failed to follow God. Instead, like Adam, David made harmful decisions to satisfy his own desires. But Jesus chose to follow God’s plan, even when it cost Him His life. And now Jesus’ kingdom is open to all who follow Him. Will you follow Jesus in your life? What kinds of decisions will you make?

About this Plan
