DOUBT
Have you ever had questions or doubts about God?
I’ve been there, and I used to think they made me a “bad Christian.” I was afraid that I was the only one struggling with this, so I didn’t tell anyone about it for a long time. After I finally took a step forward and talked about my doubts with people that I trusted, that is when I saw God so much more clearly in my life. I can relate to a story that comes from the book of Mark where a father is begging Jesus to heal His son, but the father is struggling with doubt about what Jesus could do:
“...Have mercy on us and help us, if you can.’ ‘What do you mean, ‘If I can’?” Jesus asked. ‘Anything is possible if a person believes.’ The father instantly cried out, ‘I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!’”- Mark 9:22b-24
What an amazing thing to say to Jesus! “I do believe, but help me overcome my unbelief!” In the middle of his doubts the father still took a step towards Jesus. In my life, that step looked like opening up to other Christians I trusted with my questions about God. What does that step look like for you?
Ask Jesus to help you overcome your doubts and show you how to take a step towards Him this week…even if you don’t get all the answers you’re looking for.
