IDENTITY
When you decided that you believe Jesus is the Son of God, that He died on a cross to pay the penalty for your mistakes, and that you wanted to put Him in charge of your life…your whole identity changed. Whatever you used to be all about, whatever defined your life before immediately became secondary, and now the #1 most important thing about you became that you are a Jesus Follower! Don’t get me wrong, you’re still you – you still love your family, you still play your sport, you still have your friends – but those things don’t define you anymore. You are a follower of Jesus, and that changes everything.
Why is that important? Because our identity – the way that we view and define ourselves – will determine what we do. When we recognize that we are now an adopted son or daughter of the King of the Universe (God), that changes how we live our lives. When you make decisions, when you face pressure from your friends, when you’re interacting with your family, you do so as a child of God. And by letting that identity really sink in, you will begin living the life God always wanted for you.
