DAY 2 OF 5

God is With You in Your Loneliness

After the Fall of humanity, scripture tells us that God sent Adam and Eve out of the garden. As a perfect, holy being, He cannot dwell with sinners, so He sent them away.

But that is not the end of the story.

The rest of scripture tells a story of how God continually makes a way for His people to unite with Him once again. In the Old Testament, He provides a way through the sacrificial system, the Law, and the temple. Through these sacraments, God showed up for His people.

When Jesus came down from Heaven, He fulfilled the requirements set out by those sacraments, and now we can have community with God simply by trusting in His death and resurrection. In prayer, we can meet with him. When we turn to scriptures, we get to read His words to us that remind us that we are never truly alone. He is always with us.

Remember too that he did not have to do this. He chose to because of His love for us. Once the Fall happened, he could have turned away from His people. Adam and Eve betrayed Him, as have all people since then, but His steadfast love for His people endures forever.

In your loneliness, lean heavily on the relationship the Lord has with you. The scriptures from today remind us that we are never alone in our loneliness. Not only is God waiting for us, but we can see that other Christ followers have felt this same way in the past. Men and women throughout all time have felt the same kind of loneliness you feel today. God never left them, and he’s not leaving you either. As you read the scriptures today, thank the Lord for that reality.
