Jesus Revealed Pt. 14 - It Is ALL In Jesus!

Day 1 of 5 • This day’s reading

Devotional

I AM the Way, Truth, and Life

Thoughts on the Passage

Here is the next great I AM statement by Jesus.

“I AM the way, and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”

Jesus has been saying several times that He is going away and that people cannot follow Him. Now He gives His disciples a picture about what He is talking about. He is going away to heaven and will prepare a place for us. This is confusing still for Thomas. He likes to be able to see and touch things. When Jesus says that they know the way and where He is going, Thomas wants to see the path and know where the road is. It is not that simple. The road to this place that Jesus is preparing is not a physical road and a place somewhere on this earth. It is heaven.

What is the place and the way to this place? It is the place of the Father. We go to live with our Father. How do we get there? Jesus is the Way. There is no other way to get to the Father. We hear many people express their belief that there are other ways to heaven, but that is not what Jesus says. We need to take what He says seriously. He came from the Father. No one else did. He knows what it takes to get into the Father’s presence. We need to listen.

There is a song I use to sing a child.

I am the way, the truth and the life – that’s what Jesus said.

I am the way, the truth and the life – that’s what Jesus said.

Without the way there is no going.

Without the truth there is no knowing.

Without the life there is no living.

I am the way, the truth and the life – that’s what Jesus said.

Application

Jesus is the way – ask Him for direction.

Jesus is the truth – ask Him for clarity.

Jesus is the life – ask for abundant life.

Do not give up, do not look elsewhere for a path, and do not point people any other way.

Time to Pray

Father, I am reminded of the song that I sang as a child—the song my mother taught me. It is such a simple song, but it speaks so clearly even today. You made a way for us—Jesus. You made it clear that the words of Jesus are truth and they are life. Today, I have asked for You to speak clearly to me. I do not want to waste time in not following those words of truth. Give me boldness and give me a diligent heart to follow Jesus and His words carefully.  I look forward to coming home. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
