DAY 3 OF 7

Day Three: Beautiful Worth

Scripture: Psalm 142:4, Deuteronomy 3:18, Psalm 139:14

Kat felt as if her best efforts were never enough to please those around her, so eventually she simply stopped trying. A dark pattern of thoughts started winding its way into her mind. You’re not worthy. You don’t really have anything valuable to contribute, so how dare you think you have something beautiful to offer God?

After marrying to a godly man who loved her fiercely, Kat still found nagging insecurities clinging to her mind. Their family began to grow with the birth of two children, but after that, Kat began to miscarry. She had seven miscarriages, each loss hit her aching heart. Grief swept over her as she thought, I can’t even care for my babies! There must be something wrong with me. Her shame only deepened.

Feeling completely broken and abandoned and with financial struggles mounting, Kat sat down with her husband. “I don’t want to be God’s weak, needy little girl who can’t make things work,” she honestly confessed.

Her husband responded in tenderness, “Maybe that’s been it all along: God wants you to be His little girl. He wants us to let Him love us—not because we have something to offer but because we’re His.”

Suddenly, Kat realized that she had been trying to earn worth in God’s sight by being strong and having everything together, but instead of feeling worthy, the shame was unbearable. This time she didn’t have any strength to make life pretty. She began to acknowledge her pain and speak honestly to friends.

Moving forward, Kat began to see God’s goodness in her life. When she was truthful about her feelings—both the good and the bad—she could receive God’s comfort in the pain and joy in the beauty. Slowly, she realized that she had painted God into the shape of something He was not. The heartaches were not caused by Him; rather, He was reaching through each difficulty and waiting for her to stop trying to earn His affection. Her worth was not found in whether she could prove herself to God. She was enough just as she was. She could rest in the fact that God had already proven His love for her on the cross, and He was present in every circumstance.

Jesus loved you enough to die for you. What does this tell you about your worth to Him?
