Many Lands

I was overwhelmed with emotion saying the pledge of allegiance for the very first time. Surrounded by 5,000 fellow immigrants, all thinking some form of the same thing, “we can finally call this home”. Deep in the heart of every human is a longing to have a place called home, somewhere we know we belong and are accepted. 

Many Lands speaks about this longing for home and that no physical location can truly satisfy our heart’s desire to be reunited with our Creator. Thomas and I have lived in multiple cities, states, and countries and there are so many places we love and long to go back to. However, we’ve realized what we long for more than anything is heaven itself.

Philippians 3:20 tells us that as believers our citizenship is in heaven. So even though we live in this world we belong to heaven and our identity should not be rooted in our nationality or even in our race or culture.  We are children of God. That is our identity and our true home is the Kingdom of Heaven.

Fortunately, we can experience a sense of home here on earth too. Jesus came to bring the Kingdom down to earth, so whenever we are allow Him to be our King, submit to His rule, and reign in our lives, our souls are at home.

Action Steps:

• Acknowledge and confess to the Lord where you have placed your identity, other than being a child of God

• Spend some time worshiping God as your ruler and King

Prayer:

Thank you, Lord, for adopting me into your family. Thank you that I am a child of God and a citizen of the kingdom of heaven. Help me to let this truth sink deep into my heart and for it to be my real identity
