Jehovah Mekadesh

DAY 2 OF 3

The process of sanctification involves God’s people consecrating every area of life, offering themselves up to the “Lord who sanctifies” (Leviticus 20:7-8).

Examine the contrast between Leviticus 20:8, the passage in which it is the “Lord who sanctifies you,” and Leviticus 20:7, the passage in which God’s people were to “consecrate yourselves therefore and be holy, for I am the Lord your God.” Is it the responsibility of God or His people to sanctify?

The idea of consecration as found in Leviticus 20:7 is the act of presenting or offering ourselves to God so that He can do His work of making us holy or sanctified. In his letter to the Romans, the apostle Paul similarly described this process of presenting or consecrating ourselves to God in contrast to offering ourselves to sin:

“For just as you presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness, resulting in further lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness, resulting in sanctification” (Romans 6:19).

As God’s redeemed people, Paul commanded,

“Present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship” (Romans 12:1).

Paul’s prayer for the Thessalonians was that as consecrated believers they must stay away from every form of evil so that the

“God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Thessalonians 4:22-23).

Is there sin in your life that you need to bring into the light of repentance?
