Three Lessons From The Life Of JosephSample

Three Lessons From The Life Of Joseph

DAY 3 OF 3

Seeing The Big Picture In The Details Of My Life

When Joseph starts describing to his brothers about the years of famine to come, we see how he has been able to now see God’s hand in every turn of his life for a much greater cause. To enunciate, his journey to be the governor of Egypt wasn’t a pleasant journey at all. From a pampered child, to a pit, to Potiphar’s house, to prison, and finally to the palace—a journey which took 13 years of his prime life. “Do not be grieved with yourself that you sold me here for God sent me before you to preserve life” (Verse:5). What a powerful inference Joseph has understood and he has no regrets, no objection, neither disappointment.

If I have to look back at my life with all its turns and alterations, am I filled with disappointment and indifference? My past life includes my mistakes, my missed opportunities, the injustice that has happened to me, the situations which were completely out of my control, and my shattered dreams. While the pain of the past can pin me to the ground and make me feel hopeless, Joseph’s response shows us that we have a caring God who can use our brokenness and hopelessness for His glory. Because of his position, now Joseph is able to save his family, and not just them, but also an entire nation. And not just Egypt, but all the other countries who came to them to get food during the time of the famine. The descendants of his family whom Joseph saved eventually gave birth to Jesus Christ through whom the whole world can be saved. Whatever part of the journey we are in, can we see the big picture?

In these short lessons on the life of Joseph, it is evident that God was the center of His life. Day 1- I cannot sin against God. Day 2 - Am I in God’s place to punish you? Day 3- You did not sell me to Egypt, but God has brought me here for a much bigger purpose. Joseph never went to Sunday school, neither did he have many preachers to listen to, neither role models to follow. His simple faith in God and having Him as the center helped him navigate every area of his life. Is God the center of your life?
