It comes as no surprise that the concept of heaven permeates our culture. Phrases such as, “I am in 7th heaven,” or “she moved heaven and earth to get something done,” are part of our daily language. Music, films, and tv series also reflect our enthusiasm for such a place. Think about Frank Sinatra’s Pennies from Heaven, Led Zeppelin’s Stairway to Heaven; and what about Netflix’s well-known The Good Place? The imaginary landscape of yesterday’s and today’s society presents a hunger for a place where everything is as it is supposed to be: Perfect, just perfect.
Heaven is a place where there is no hunger, violence, wars, poverty, suffering, tears, or illnesses. Can you imagine it? It sounds too good to be true, and yet, it is true. This place we all long for and dream of does exist. The Bible is very clear regarding the place Jesus is preparing for us. In the days before His death and resurrection, Jesus referred to it as “His Father’s house.” (John 14:2) It is also called paradise, (Luke 23:43, 2 Corinthians 12:4, Rev 2:7) the better country, (Hebrews 11:14,16) the kingdom of heaven, (Matthew 25:1, James 2:5) the eternal kingdom, (2 Peter 1:11) the eternal inheritance, (1 Peter 1:4, Hebrews 9:15) and the heavenly Jerusalem (Galatians 4:26, Hebrews 12:22, Revelation 3:12).
In the next few days, we will take a closer look at this amazing place. Our faith tank will be entirely refueled by the wonderful promises God has left for us in His Word. Get ready to take a virtual tour and direct your attention to a city where there is no need for the Sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God illuminates it.
There will be no more death, nor mourning, crying, or pain. No more visits to the doctor, no more medical bills to pay. No more decay! Are you suffering from physical pain these days? In heaven, you will never have pain. This is so thrilling! It is hard to contain the excitement that comes from imagining this.
The understanding and profoundness of the verses we are going to examine are a treasure for our souls. It is like receiving a shot that contains all the vitamins we are in desperate need of! It will change the perspective of your life forever. Furthermore, this perspective will transform your attitude towards your plans, goals, and life itself.
You will be forever in the presence of your Creator–your loving God. Everything will be as He promised, perfect.
