DAY 14 OF 47

ENOUGH: THE SMALL THINGS

“Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much, and whoever is dishonest with very little will also be dishonest with much.” (Luke 16:10)

There’s a reason why we don’t give toddlers large salaries and make them responsible for their own food, shelter and daily essentials. But there comes a time when a child needs to understand that everything has a cost and a value, and there are choices to be made. And those choices can be good or bad.

So, when they are ready, we often give children pocket money: responsibility of their own to buy a few small things. They could choose to spend it straight away on sweets. But if they want something more substantial, they have to learn to wait and save.

And it’s the same with us and God. We must learn to look after the small things that we have been given, and to understand that trust is something that builds. So that when we are given more, we will act responsibly and treat all that we have as important gifts from God.

Father God, we can often feel burdened by having too much. So teach us to look after and cherish every small gift; then we can be generous with all that You have blessed us with. Amen.
