Try Something New - Mary Kay Ash

Lord, open my eyes to your truth and help me understand and obey your precepts. 

Observe Most of us don’t like change. We get comfortable with the familiar and accept the status quo, even when it’s not in our best interest. We like our routines and dislike uncertainty. But God doesn’t call us to barricade ourselves into a comfort zone. He wants us to try new things and embrace new opportunities. 

As we engage in new endeavors, we establish new relationships and are given new opportunities to minister to others. When we make it a habit to regularly try something new, we become more willing to change and more open to God’s desired direction for our lives. 

Mary Kay Ash believed in the Golden Rule: “Do to others whatever you would like them to do to you” (Matthew 7:12). She operated by this motto: God first, family second, and career third. After being passed over for a promotion that was given to a man she had trained, Mary Kay decided to write a book for women in business. Her book turned into a business plan that ultimately ranked one of the top one hundred best companies to work for in America and one of the top ten best companies for women—Mary Kay, Inc. Her vision, courage, and willingness to try something new continue to help women achieve their potential and bring their dreams to life to this very day. 

Courageously try something new by accepting the following truths. 

1. God expects you to be careful how you live and make the most of every opportunity he sends your way (Ephesians 5:15–17). 

2. God expects you to trust him, seek his will, and follow his lead (Proverbs 3:5–6). 

3. God will equip you to do his will through the power of Jesus Christ (Hebrews 13:21). 

4. God expects you to turn away from sin, remove any obstacle standing in your way, and pursue with endurance the direction he is calling you to go (Hebrews 12:1). 

Interpret At times, God directs his people toward a new and unfamiliar path. His desire is that we embrace this new direction and trust him to prepare the way.
