My soul surrenders

To who you are and all you’ve done

Surrender is a matter of life or death. It is all or nothing. Paul gives us one of the best and most challenging definitions of what it means to worship. It’s not just about offering your physical body, it’s your entire life. Your every day; the good, the bad and everything in between. Your past, present, and future - all need to be surrendered to God as a sacrifice.

You might feel a sense of loss when you approach God’s presence. You think, "Why is there always something to bring? Why is there always something to sacrifice?" 

But imagine this: what if when you surrender your entire life to God it makes your life more your own instead of less? That when you surrender your life, He makes you free? That surrender takes all the unnecessary weight off you and releases your spirit to rush right into His arms. When we surrender our all to who He is, every empty space within us is filled with His intentions, desires and the life we so desperately long for.

We are a living sacrifice because surrendering to God is not static. It has movement. In the same way that the spirit is moving and always doing new things, the sacrifice of each season in your life has to be fresh. The sacrifice that you burned in the past was necessary for your faith in that moment, not for your faith today. What are the things that you need to surrender right now that would propel you into the future that God has in mind for you?

ACTION

I remember being 15, kneeling next to my bed one night, crying out to God and, like a good overdramatic teenager, I took a photo of my girlfriend and one of my parents, I took my guitar, my keyboard, a journal, and couple of other things and I put them all on my bed. I created my own ‘altar’ and, crying out to God, I said: “I give you everything I love, everything I want, everything I desire, it’s all yours, not mine. I would rather be in proximity to You empty-handed than far from You with everything to surrender.”

PRAYER

My prayer is that as you continue in this journey and God shows you the things that you need to lay down in front of Him, that the weight on your shoulders would be lifted so that you can run wild and free to His arms and to His world.
