Jesus came to seek and to save those who are lost (Luke 19:10). He lived a perfect life, died on the cross as payment for your sin, and then rose from the grave after just three days, beating death for all of us. He made a way for us to be saved from hell and eternal separation from God.
As Jesus hung on the cross next to two thieves on their own crosses, one of those thieves prayed the most important prayer of his life. He asked Jesus to save him.
This man’s salvation experience wasn’t fancy, but it had all of the necessary parts.
He admitted his own sin.
He acknowledged Jesus’ perfection.
He asked Jesus to rescue him.
Jesus offers the same opportunity to be saved to everyone, including you. Have you ever prayed as the thief did, admitting your sin, acknowledging Jesus’ ability to save you, and asking him to rescue you from the punishment that goes with your sin?
Even if you have already been saved, chances are that you find yourself feeling far away from Him sometimes. Sin does that to a person, sin and just neglecting to pray and read your Bible.
Saved or not, the good news is a fresh start is never more than a prayer away.
Thank God for the privilege of praying to Him and for the clean slate He offers no matter who you are or what you’ve done.
