The NIV 365-Day Devotional Reading PlanSample

Pushing Buttons
No one knows how to push a child’s buttons like a parent. You know when you are being harsh or unreasonable. You know that the way you are speaking to them will not get the desired results. You know, but for one reason or another you don’t try to discover a more Christlike way to relate to them.
If you’re a parent, you have the power to work your kids’ control panels. Ephesians 6:4 gives you incentive to resist such a temptation. A God-honoring father is one who learns to exert influence over his kids without exasperating them, to be sensitive to their unique emotional makeup. That is, without pushing their buttons.
REFLECT & PRAY:
*What hot buttons do your children possess?
*Have you ever asked your children about what you might do that frustrates them?
*What steps can you take to improve communication between you and your children?
