A Mustard Seed
Reading: Mark 4:30-32
Key Verse: “It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest seed you plant in the ground. Yet when planted, it grows and becomes the largest” verses 31-32
As we begin to conclude our devotional “There is More” we need to reaffirm our faith in the ability of God to enlarge our life. Jesus used the illustration of a mustard seed to show how that which is small and apparently insignificant, can, with God’s care, expand to become something so large that it blesses other lives – birds find rest and peace in its branches.
Jesus referred to the mustard seed being planted into the ground. God has planted the imperishable, righteous seed of His Spirit in our hearts (1 Pet.1:23). Psalm 92:12-14 promises that those who are planted in the house of the Lord will flourish and even bear fruit in old age. God plants us in the global Body of Christ but specifically in a local church. It is there that we can flourish by connecting with others and bear fruits of love, faithfulness, etc. for the display of the Lord’s splendour (Isa.61:3).
You may feel like an insignificant mustard seed but with God’s help, the potential He has placed within you can fill your world with more of God’s grace than you ever thought possible. You can flourish and others will find rest and peace in your presence!
Prayer: Lord may I grow into the fullness of Christ so that you can bless others through me
