God Fails Mathematics!
Reading: Lev.26:1-8
Key Verse: “Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand” v.8
I think God would not pass GCSE maths! If five could chase a hundred which is a multiple of twenty, then a hundred should only be able to chase two thousand not ten thousand which is a multiple of a hundred! Jesus attempted to feed at least five thousand people with only five loaves and two fish. The ways of God simply do not add up!
The point here is the power of being together in unity. Ecclesiastes records the depression and difficulties resulting from individualism and contrasts it to the benefits and blessings of togetherness. It says, “Two are better than one ... if one falls his friend can help him up ... two can keep warm together ... two can defend themselves” (Eccl.4:7-12). An individual on their own can be depressed, less productive, unable to rise, will become cold and can be overpowered. The passage concludes, “A cord of three strands is not quickly broken”. Some have suggested this speaks of God’s presence but simplistically an additional power is produced when people are together in unity.
It was not good for Adam to be alone (Gen.2:18) and like him, we should look for others to be with together.
Prayer: May I be a friend to others to help, encourage, support and defend them
