You Are Not Alone

DAY 2 OF 6

God Never Leaves

The Amplified Bible calls the Holy Spirit our Comforter, Counselor, Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and Standby. Wow! I love all those adjectives!

The Holy Spirit not only comforts you, but He also counsels and helps you, and He intercedes for you like a lawyer advocates for a client. He strengthens you and stands by you. You have everything you need right inside you – you are never alone.

God meant it when He said the Holy Spirit would remain with you forever. Just think about forever. That means there is never a time you are outside His watchful care. He doesn’t ever leave. You never go anywhere without Him. The psalmist wrote:

Is there any place I can go to avoid your Spirit?

to be out of your sight?

If I climb to the sky, you’re there!

If I go underground, you’re there!

If I flew on morning’s wings

to the far western horizon,

You’d find me in a minute—

You’re already there waiting!

Then I said to myself, “Oh, he even sees me in the dark!

At night I’m immersed in the light!

—Psalm 139:7-12, The Message

Even before Jesus came, when God’s people were under the old covenant, God declared that He is always watching over His children as a loving Father. How much more does that apply in His new covenant? Now Christians have His very Spirit living within them. When Jesus left the planet, He didn’t leave His children hopeless and helpless. No, He left His Spirit!

The Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. —John 14:17–18

You know Him because He is with you and in you! And you have access to Him and all His power all day, every day. There is never a time when you are without His presence. Everything He is, everything He has access to, everything you need, is right inside your spirit where the Holy Spirit dwells.
