Something Great is About to Happen!  

“​I know where you are going. And when I have tested you, you will come out as pure gold.” (Job 23:10) 

I remember when I had just been through an emotionally life-changing experience. I complained and wailed a lot. ‘Why me? What did I do wrong?’ At that time, my mother said something to me that was pivotal to changing my perspective. She turned to me and said ‘God is the potter, you are clay. You cannot dictate where He is taking you, but you can​ ​cooperate with him as He takes you through process’. Those words were the beginning of a healing process. It was a reminder that total surrender was needed for God to take control. Knowing that God wants to mold us and that this life we live is not our own is liberating. When we let this truth settle in our hearts, we move from fighting the reality of our experiences to participating with God and with His purpose for our lives. As someone famously said- ‘life is 20% what happens and 80% what we make of it’. Sometimes, life’s unexpected turns bring out the motives of our hearts and the substance that we are made of. Instead of running into a self-pity corner or attracting woe-is-me parties, use this time to draw closer to God.  

The book of Job talks about God testing us so that we may come forth as gold; but a lot of times we do not realise that these ‘tests' will not be rosy. It could even make us question God and his methods of testing. God is the potter, we are just the clay! The clay should not dictate how or what it is being made into. We forget that when we say we surrender our lives to God, we are truly giving Him freedom to mold us. That means God can use methods that are not exactly comfortable for us. This is the beauty of surrender: allowing God to do so much more than we could imagine. It is always a better deal when God takes over, because the end is always better! We can allow God to use this time to make us and shape us! Herein lies the start of a beautiful journey: getting to know God deeper through our brokenness, and coming out stronger. There is a divine exchange that is about to happen- His glory and His strength to discover and walk in for ourselves. It’s time to go deeper! 

PRAYER/CONFESSION: Heavenly father, I know that the plans you have for me are far better than my plans. You know the path I take and when I am through I will come out gold. You have restored to me everything that was lost. I am eternally grateful that you have never left my side. That still, small voice is there to comfort, to encourage, to give me a glimpse of my glorious future. Lord, you are the potter, I am the clay. I surrender to you all over again. I remember that though there's pain in the offering and sacrifice, you are my Heavenly Father, and you have the best for me!  

Dear Lord, I commit every situation I am going through into your hands. I may not know or understand all that is going on, but I trust in your promises. I believe that the plans you have for me are for good and not evil. I trust you God that you will take everything I commit into your hands, and bring out the best in everything.
