 OBEY YOUR PARENTS

PRAY: Heavenly Father, help me to listen to my father and mother. Please take the wisdom they have given to me and bind them around my neck and in my heart. Let the things You have given to me through my parents guide me, watch over me and speak to me, so that I can grow in wisdom. Please let me look past the words they've said that are not from You and embrace the words that are from You, so that their commands and teaching will make me more Christ-like. I pray this in Your name.

REFLECT: Reflect on how much of who you are is because of your parents. How much of what they've said to you through the years has become a part of you? How much have you taken to heart? Try to remember some of the teachable moments. Are you giving your children commands and teachings that they will fasten around their neck, walk with and sleep with? What words have you heard from your parents or said to your children that were harmful? What words were empowering? Think about what conversations you have hung on to. Have they hurt you or made you a better person? The power of words in a family is life-changing.

ACT:   Choose one incredible conversation or word of advice that one of your parents had with you. Why don't you go back and thank them for those words. Let them know that their words have stayed with you and have made you a better person. If you can't do that then why don't you offer your children some life empowering words that they will want to hang on to for their lives. Pour into them as the Lord continues to pour into us. Either thank your parents for a Godly command or teaching that they gave you, or give one to your children. In doing that, you will be reflecting Jesus in their lives.
