The Shadow Of My Porch Swing - The Presence Of God - Part 2

DAY 6 OF 7

DADDY CAN FIX IT

Jack of all trades, master of none. That saying was a common one I heard as a child and when I grew up I happened to marry one. However, he regularly falls more into the category of ‘jack of all trades, master of most.’ It’s quite handy for me to have such a skilled fixer around the house, but sometimes I wonder about our boys’ perception of reality. Just this morning, as I heard some cars and toys crashing to the floor, I reminded the kids that recklessness leads to brokenness. “But daddy can fix it,” was the quick reply. Yesterday the rubber chicken broke. “Daddy can fix it with his magic glue.” Last week, Elijah jumped on my footrest. “Sorry mommy, but daddy can fix it.” Clogged toilet? Daddy fixed it. Lawnmower issues? Daddy fixed it. Mommy forgot dinner? Daddy fixed that, too. Luke tripped into the doorway and fractured his finger. I find myself comforting him with, “Don’t worry bud, Daddy can fix it.”

Sometimes the reality is that the object in question just isn’t fixable. However, as a parent, it is such a joy to see the confidence my children have in their daddy. Trust has been built and they have walked through enough life experiences with him that their reflex response is that he will bring about good from the broken circumstance. As I grow older with my Heavenly Father, I long to have the same reflex response. To know, regardless of the circumstance, that my Daddy can fix it.

What do you need your Daddy to fix today?

Daddy, you are the best fixer I know. It seems hopeless but I trust that you can make something good from this mess. Thank you in advance.
