You Are Beloved

DAY 6 OF 7

Why do bad things happen? The short answer is pretty simple: bad things happen because our world is partially cut off from heaven because of sin. Imagine that heaven and earth were bound together as one before they were torn apart by evil. God and His people have been constantly at work to bring heaven and earth together again. And it is happening. Christ will come again soon to finish this work.

As we live in the hopeful in-between, it’s hard to understand why sometimes we get a miracle, and other times we don’t. The temptation is to say, “God did this bad thing,” but I find that answer too simplistic. Sometimes, we must be okay with not having a good answer, and we must simply live in the tension of mystery while holding tightly on to what we do know.

What we do know is that God is good and wants us well. That’s reflected in the teachings and actions of Jesus. We do know that because of heaven, nothing can ultimately destroy us or our loved ones who trust in Him, and we know that God is powerful and mighty.

Following God means trusting Him, even if you don’t know where He’s taking you.

Following God means believing He always has a great surprise in store. No matter how bad things may seem now, you’ve done this long enough to know He is watching, He is involved, and He has something great in store . . .

Being followers of Jesus, we don’t make demands upon Him, but rather, we trust that He is going to pour out blessing on our lives as He promised. We don’t know what it will be, but we know it will be good.

When we embrace possibilities and opportunities, all of life changes. Anticipating good will nurture your faith, and will build your character to do great things for God. Simply letting your mind run wild and dreaming about what is possible is one of the healthiest things you can do to have more energy and joy. Practice daydreaming! It’s good for you. There’s nothing like picturing something unbelievable and then saying to yourself, “It is possible.”

Falling in love with possibility will make all the difference in your life. On the other hand, there’s nothing that can sink a project, dream, or idea quicker than believing it to be impossible from the beginning.
