Anticipate and celebrate the joy of Christ's birth by taking a closer look at Isaiah's prophecy regarding the coming Messiah in Isaiah 9:6-7. There is no more extraordinary Christmas gift than the gift of Jesus Christ. Joy to the World, the Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace has come! 


For Unto Us a Child Is Born 

One of the many Christmas traditions for families is to set out a nativity scene depicting the birth of Jesus.  Usually, we see Mary, Joseph, shepherds, sheep, and wise men surrounding a tiny baby in a manger.  It’s a picturesque scene to remind us of Jesus’ birth.  But our familiarity with the nativity scene can cause us to forget the humanity of each person present on that special night.

Year after year, millions of people do their best to make the excitement and festivities of Christmas Day match the anticipation that precedes it. But what about the first Christmas? Hope has come into the world! It’s Jesus—God with us! At this time of the year, we celebrate the greatest Miracle ever. It came in a small package and had an eternal impact on you and me.

In the middle of the craziness that the Christmas season brings, we need to remember why we celebrate: Jesus! Over the next 5 days, we'll look at the Christmas story to help us prepare our hearts and minds for this time of year.

Christmas

Our Christmas story starts with the angel’s annunciation to Mary and concludes with the visit of the Magi.  In these reflections and applications of the Christmas narrative I will mostly refer to Luke, as his is the fullest of the gospel accounts.
