This phase in Jesus’ life is focused on leadership development. As the movement continues to grow, Jesus begins to hand-select from his disciples a few to be servant leaders of the movement. After a full night of prayer, consulting with his Father, Jesus appoints twelve men who will begin their apprenticeship as leaders and will eventually become the leaders of the movement.

The Life of Jesus Pt. 4 – Developing Leaders

In Part 1, we will be looking at how the Father prepared his Son to be the greatest leader who ever lived on Earth. The Father will spend the first thirty years of Jesus’ life preparing him to be the leader and shepherd of his people. Come and take a look at the God who was willing to become a man. The Life of Jesus Pt. 1 – the First 30 Years

Jesus begins his earthly ministry when he is about thirty years old (Luke 3:23). We call this phase “Ministry Foundations.” It lasts about a year and a half. During this time, Jesus will issue two calls. To unbelievers, he says, “Come and see.” To believers, he says, “Follow me” (John 1:39-40).

As the ministry grows, Jesus issues his next call: “‘Come, follow me’ Jesus said, ‘and I will make you fishers of men.’” (Mark 1:17)

It is the third call. It is made to those he has already called: “Come and see” and “Follow Me.” This third call is to come closer to Jesus, to draw near enough so he can now teach you how you can be a part of the process of making disciples.
