The Bond of Peace
Ephesians 4:3-6
“Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit…one hope…one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all…”
The peace of Christ is a victor’s peace. Jesus Christ has defeated sin and death through his sinless sacrifice. We now have peace with God through Jesus Christ, the source of peace. As the peace of Christ rules in our hearts, we are united to all others who know this same peace with God. Our lives are united by his Spirit into one body, the body of Christ. This global body of Christ has one hope, one faith and one baptism. We have surrendered our sin, self-life and self-will to Jesus. He is our victorious Lord and King. The bond of peace is both the deposit of his Spirit in our hearts, guaranteeing our eternal inheritance, as well as the living presence of God within us, keeping us from sinning against our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. This bond is a reality in our lives, but we must make every effort to surrender our stubborn self-will each day to the Spirit of God so that we experience his unity and his peace.
Lord Jesus, you are our peace, our unity and our life.
