Live Worthy of the Gospel

Philippians 1:27-28
“Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ…without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved – and that by God.”

The conduct that Paul implies is worthy of the gospel of Christ, is living free from the fear of persecution and ridicule, and is even unto death for the sake of Christ. This lack of fear speaks of our confidence in Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit within us. This boldness of witness and confidence in the face of persecution is a sign of our confidence in Christ’s eternal reward for those who are not ashamed of the gospel. It’s a sign that our life on earth is short in the scope of eternity, and that we are living with eternal values, not short term popularity contests. Whatever happens, we are to live in a way that authenticates the gospel through our lives. We live in a way that the sacrificial love of Jesus that took him to a cross to die for our sins would fill our lives with courage and forgiveness.

Lord Jesus, you are my example. Fill me with your love and power, so that the gospel is lived and proclaimed through my life this day, for your glory.
